It’s disheartening to see far left ideology pervading and distorting even science. I bought this book expecting to read about chocolate not a neo Maoist catalogue of how I should live. This is from chapter one: “… back in the day of plagues, religious sectarianism, witch burning and rampant imperialism” !!!!And this is from the introduction: “ now that the majority of people living in developed countries have no morally or technically defensible reason for continuing to consume …” cows , chicken, pigs and fish “as food” …That messianic, authoritarian frame of mind takes away from the credibility of the book therefore I am sending it back for a full refund because I don't know if I can trust what the author says seeing his authoritarian and ill informed views on matters as important as the environment and human nutrition.A few examples of how easy is to contradict with facts the author's opinions:About 20% of people in the UK live in households bellow the poverty line. It doesn't mean that the remaining 80% are well off and can afford buying organic almond milk at WF in London where the author probably does some of his shopping. A father doesn't have money to buy "alternative" milk for his children so he buys cow's milk which is cheaper and more nutritious. His actions will be "morally and technically" indefensible only in the minds of authoritarian, spoiled people who live detached from reality.Babies need milk. If they can't have it from their mothers then they will have formulas which are based on cow's milk. Lactoferrin is essential for babies's health. Most formulas use bovine lactoferrin... There are some new technology but it's in the beginning and it's expensive.Omega 3 from fish is far more absorbable than omega 3 from vegetable sources so you would need lots of linseed , for example, with all its omega 6 so in the end you will be just creating a big imbalance between omega 3, the good one, and omega 6, the bad one.The production of soy impacts biodiversity and affects Earth's climate. Soy, the main alternative to animal protein, is not environmentally friendly. In addition , its protein is inferior to animal's protein.I could go on and on.P. S. I am going vegetarian . I have stopped eating red meat and am in the process of stop eating chicken or fish. I drink milk with chocolate sometimes but I normally drink chocolate with water or almond milk (yes, I can afford it but not for much longer considering the way things are going since the changes caused by the communist dictatorship in China.I consume a lot of whey protein and put my money in a 10 billion dollar market (which will be double that in 10 years) which employs a lot of people in a business which has decent people such as the owners of Pulsin, Nutristrength and Pink sun . They make the best whey protein in the UK. The health advantages of whey protein have no parallel in the rice , pea, and other vegetable based protein powders. Not any near.As a matter of fact, I am trying to get to a point where I will live on whey protein, dark non alkalinised chocolate, nuts and fruits. Maybe I will keep eating fish on the top of that.To be vegan is just an unhealthy choice based on psychological reasons , not scientific, ethical or nutritional reasons.
