Do you remember the first time you went on an adventure? This charmingly illustrated story about 8-year-old Annalise Gold made me remember mine. But for the intended audience of children, it tells a tale of discovery. In looking for her lost box turtle, she rides her bike further and further through alleys and streets. Over the summer, Annalise enjoys finding her neighborhood’s many features, especially it’s chocolate scented air. The author (an educator) includes “words to know”, an idea for writing, a page to be an author, and one to be an illustrator. I had fun reading this to my grandchildren – and had to provide extra paper!
